Support the Kickstarter fundraiser for Chicago Chronicles T.V. series.

About this project

Imitation of life is part 1 of 5 short films that make up the series "Chicago Chronicles." It's an extended account in prose and verse of historical events, including legendary material, presented in chronological order about urban life. I would say that these particular events gave birth to a era that I would like to call, " The Chicago Renaissance" (Early 90's until current times). Imitation of life proves that a carefully created work of art using film can evoke a similarly spiritual response telling the story of Darien Connerly, a 19 year old teen who commits a string of robberies before killing a cab driver. That crime lands him in jail facing murder charges. The story is narrated by the neighborhood Slime ball. By way of musical verse he shows young kids how drugs, gangs, and violence can lead to self- destruction. The following feature titled "Robert Yummy Sandifer Story," is a story about a 11 year old child soldier (gang member) who is coerced by older gang members into committing a string of murders. He also committed other felonious crimes."Yummy" is then killed by the older gang members in order to silence him before the authorities could find out who sent "Yummy" on those murder missions. The story lines used in  "The Chicago Chronicles" are based on true events. The purpose for creating these projects is to expose Chicago's troubled youth how to use media to tell a story and how to solve conflict without the use of violence. The average urban youth can identify with events presented in these stories either through personal experience or through the environment they are forced to live in. These projects allows them to look at their everyday experiences through a creative lens instead of a destructive lens. This form of conflict resolution is artistic, promotes positive expression and teaches them how to be productive by using sound moral judgement. All funds will be used for production cost. United Parents Federation Volume #1

Recently I was ask the following question in regards to the growing epidemic of violence in our urban communities at the hands of our youth.that question was , what can we do to steer our kids away from violence (Whether it be gangs , bullying , etc.) towards peace ,harmony , and respect for another. The following
immediately came to mind ; responsibility , account , leadership , aspiration , and prevention. We are at war & its my belief that as parents & soldiers we need the right weapons in order to be able to successfully engage in the battles to come I know some of you are reading this: saying to yourselves , did he just say what I think he said , yes I did.parents we are at war.
I want you to think of yourselves as the United Federation of Parents. Our enemy is the bacteria and parasites that we have allowed to manifest itself in our villages until it has replaced our morals , principles , and we no longer attack it on all levels , because after all , after decades of  us in debilitation we no longer view its presence as abnormal .The first tool that's used in any war being wage & fought is that you must have a sound battle plan , with your rules of engagement . Whatever your initial plan is , be sure to have many contingencies plans that can be implemented swiftly, in case your original plan is unsuccessful.
Now I can provide you all with an illustration of a model, but I want to say that every neighborhood (village) is unique , and that the elders (parents) of these villages will be best suited if they got together & devised a plan that fit their particular set of needs. Here's what I'm proposing in my community. That we start off distributing pamphlets to the churches , stores & business within our targeted zone. These pamphlets will serve the following functions it will inform all those in the community that wish to participate with us on what they can do, it lets the kids know that we're here & provides them with our resources to escape & get our help , and it informs those forces in the community that we intend to get rid of them.Let me say whatever yours do, it should provide the same things minimum.
Also, I intend to inform our c.a.p.s civilian representative of our endeavors , so security can be provided for our functions ,or participants can feel secure , & our enemies will know our intentions, see our results .The next thing to do will be to pick a block to start on, deliver our message swiftly & stay as long as it takes then another block, then another one ( this can be done at high schools as well )
Earlier i mentioned the words responsibility, accountability , leadership..., each word entails a lesson that I will be given soon if interested  let us know when you comment . Thanks for your time Parents

X please let us know your comments ,thoughts , or advice on what you read. Look forward to your response.

Darien Lawrence Marquez-Connerly, 19

The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning. Some good can be derived from every event is a better proposition than that everything happens for the best, which it assuredly does not. The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears. The turning point in the process of growing up is when you discover the core of strength is within you and it survives all hurt. God uses suffering as a whetstone, to make men sharp with , he brings men into deep waters, not to drown them, but to cleanse them. When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, and it seems as though you can not hang on a minute longer, never give up. For that is just the place and time that the tide will turn. What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us. If you're going through hell, keep going, we must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey. Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

The Tale Of A Friend

Kesha has known for a while now that her best friend Tasha has been seeing her boy friend Jimmy despite her parents objections. Believing she was a good friend ,sometimes she even allowed Tasha parents to believe Tasha was spending the night over her house, so she be with Jimmy , doing , well you know.

One night during one of Kesha's escapades, Tasha mom fell tragically ill & died from an allergic reaction. When the family tried to contact Kesha they couldn't , and even if they had she wouldn't have the faintest idea where Tasha was.

In hindsight we can say whatever we want , being that its 20/20.The real question , the one that has moral , and ethics implications is , what constitutes a good friend? could it be one who helps avoid responsibility, and lies for you? or is it , one that holds you accountable for your actions , teaches you responsibility , and stands by you while you face the consequences of your actions? Kesha thought she was a good friend , so  im asking you , which friend would you want to have & more importantly which friend do you consider yourself to be?

Karens Dilemma

Karen begin to notice that her son Ra-Ra behavior not to mention attitude begin to change from a positive view to a negative one.Instead of following her parental intuition , and talking to her son in regards to her concerns & his behavior , she settle for the obvious , like many parents , and done nothing. Her reasoning , simple he's a teenager , and as such he is just being rebellious.

Had she followed her intuition , and talked to him she would have found out like the average teenager he was struggling to find his way , and that peer pressure had forced him to make a tragic decision of joining a gang & he felt he had no way out or anybody to talk to.

The moral of the story is how many of us can identify with karen? How many of our sons are Ra-Ra in the sense of succumbing to peer pressure, committing criminal acts.So , parents are we going to be our kids friends , or parents? if you chose parents , that means being nosy , and involved in their lives , who influence do you want to guide them.Yours or a stranger? they might not say it but they need us.The only question is are we listening?

Scenerio2:
A mountain goat attempts to scale a cliff sixty feet high. Every minute, the goat bounds upward three feet but slips back two. How long does it take for the goat to reach the top? Fifty eight minutes. Although his net progress each minute is one foot, he reaches the top on the fifty-eighth minute just before he would normally slip back two feet

Food for thought!

Scenerio2:

Two people are talking on the phone long distance. One is in an East Coast state of the U.S., the other is in a West Coast state of the U.S. The first asks the other, "What time is it?" He hears the answer and says, "That's funny. It's the same time here!" Neither one of them were mistaken about the time. How is this possible? One is in Eastern Oregon (Mountain time); the other in Western Florida (Central time), and the phone call takes place on daylight-savings-time changeover day at 1:30am.
Why is it better to have round manhole covers than square ones?
Solution: A square manhole cover can fall into the hole on the diagonal; a round manhole cover cannot be dropped into the hole.

What would U Do?

Scenerio 1:

You've been sentenced to death in an obscure foreign country which has a strange law. Before the sentence is carried out, two papers -- one with "LIFE" written on it and one with "DEATH" written on it -- are folded up and placed in a hat. You are permitted to pick out one of the papers (without looking), and if you choose the one with "LIFE" written on it, you are set free. Otherwise, the death sentence is carried out. On this occasion, a mean-spirited acquaintenance of yours, bent on your demise, has substituted the paper with "LIFE" written on it with another one with "DEATH" written on it. This person gleefully informs you of what he has done and that you are doomed to die. You are not permitted to speak to anyone about this misdeed, nor will you have a chance to switch the papers or the hat yourself in time. How will you avoid certain death?
